Welcome to this week's "Of The Week". Every single week, we'll share with you a phrase, dish, influential figure, and film to give you a better understanding of Asian heritage and culture. This is a great opportunity for you to learn more about Asian culture, spark discussions, and celebrate the diversity here at North Trail High School.

Phrase of the Week

Fi qalbi kulli mu’minin shajaratun tahmilu thimara al-sa’adati

 فِي قَلْبِ كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ شَجَرَةٌ تَحْمِلُ ثِمَارَ السَّعَادَةِ

This Arabic quote translates to "in the heart of every believer is a tree that bears the fruit of happiness". This quote reflects the inner peace and joy that can cultivate within a person, using "trees" and "fruits" as a metaphor.

Dish of the Week

This week's Dish of the Week is "Hotteok" (호떡) from Korea. It's a warm and sweet Korean pancake, typically enjoyed during colder months such as February, made from a dough filled with a mixture of brown sugar, cinnamon, and crushed peanuts or seeds, then pan-fried until golden and crispy on the outside. This is enjoyed as a street food.

Fim of the Week

This week's Film of the Week is "Ne Zhe 2" (哪吒之魔童闹海). Having just released on February 14th, this animated film has become China's highest-grossing film ever. It follows the story of Ne Zha as his body, along with Ao Bing's, is destroyed by heavenly lightning, prompting Taiyi Zhenren to use his Sacred Lotus to rebuild them and safeguard their souls.

Influential Figure of the Week

This week's influential figure is Aung San (ဗိုလ်ချုပ် အောင်ဆန်း). San is known as the "founding father of modern Myanmar", having led the region through the struggle for indepndence from British rule. He was known for his values in demogracy and despite his assassination in 1947, his legacy lives on as a leader and fierce advocate in freedom.
